Trainer Dreams

Sometimes I work all night in my sleep. I ride colts, give lessons, attend shows. I hate it when I drive the truck and trailer all night. My favorite dream was one where I was riding Bonnie bareback. We were galloping and jumping over logs and I was completely relaxed and comfortable. Toward the end of the ride, I galloped past John, who was riding Alibi. This dream happened when I first owned Bonnie and she was barely ride-able (far from any bareback galloping we might later do). I've always hoped this dream was prophetic.

Last night I was sacking out a horse in my dreams; flapping a saddle blanket to get the horse used to being saddled. As I lifted the blanket, the mare would flinch. I was going slowly, swinging the blanket up over her back and letting it settle there for a moment before pulling it off and repeating the movement. As the mare got over her fear of the flapping object, I went around to the right side and set the blanket on her again. The saddle blanket was getting heavy. It was getting difficult to lift it up over the mare's back. I pulled hard, and finally it swung free.

I woke to the sound of breaking glass. I'd flopped my pillow over onto the nightstand, breaking a glass and spilling water on my radio. The lamp fell over and the dog woke up.

I guess I don't have that nightstand quite sacked out, yet.
