Old Blackfeet trail

It was just one of the many exciting places that young Sett had seen on that journey, the cairns that marked the ancient trail, the awe-inspiring view from the summit, Talking Crow gesturing into the distance as he explained the routes of the canyons below and the landmarks to follow when and if Sett ever wanted to visit the Blackfeet. The skinny boy had watched from the windy pass as his friends, a small band of warriors and women, made their way down into the forest on the other side, the old man on the black pony taking up a position at the rear. Sett had waved as the figures receded into the trees, and if Talking Crow had noticed, he did not wave back. It was then, when all the world lay unknown between him and the horizon, that Sett vowed to himself to go over that pass. But that day, the promise to return to his family drew him back, and only the view from the top of the mountain remained to trick him into twisting his life.
